Mercedes-Benz W202 sports cars series was introduced to replace the Mercedes-Benz W201 and was fitted by a 4-cylinder inline engines for C 180 (1.8 L, 122 hp (120 kW hp/90)), C 200 (2.0 L, 136 PS (134 hp/100 kW) and 220 C (2.2 L, 150 PS (148 hp/110 kW). Also with regard to gasoline engines, the flagship was the C280 with a six-cylinder engine, still in line (190 hp/142 kW .) Diesel engines fitted instead C200D, C220D and C250D. Since the presentation was also made available a version of AMG, 36 AMG with a propeller from 3606cm3.
The compact version of the sports cars sedan were 4467, 1723 and 1425, respectively for length, width and height, while the weights ranged between 1350 and 1.610 kg.
In subsequent years of production range of engines also saw the commissioning of the production versions C200 Kompressor, C230 Kompressor and the new generation of diesel engines equipped with common rail technology.
Aesthetically the range underwent a facelift in 1997, simultaneously with the launch of new engines.
