The third generation of the sedan among the most popular media market has been completely renewed in 2009. Evident stylistic references to the younger sister Class C: the line is slightly more angular than the second generation. The Mercedes designers have wanted to focus on safety and ecology by combining the latest electronic systems for the prevention of shock and renewed engines to consume (and pollute) less. Just to optimize this crucial aspect is the reduction of weight, aerodynamics finely curated and regulation of accessory systems such as air conditioning, power steering and fuel pump. Currently on sale only the sedan and coupé, while the station wagon version is expected in the autumn.

The engines offered at launch:

Gasoline
  1. 350 CGI V6 Blue Efficiency (3.5 liters of power) from 292 horses
  2. 500 V8 (AMG version also) (5.5 liters of power) with 388 horses
Diesel
  1. 220 CDI Blue Efficiency (2.1 liters of power) from 170 horses
  2. 250 CDI Blue Efficiency (2.1 liters of power) from 204 horses
  3. 350 CDI Blue Efficiency (3.0 liters of power) from 231 horses
