The first generation of Class E (also known by the acronym Mercedes-Benz W210) was presented in 1995 and offering for sale the following year, built on a new chassis designed in the alliance DaimlerChrysler, the LX platform was one of the first sedan to have ESP as an option, and offered an almost endless list of accessories (in addition to normal customizations extraserie).
During the Model Year and restyling versions were introduced 4-Matic - the equivalent Mercedes-Benz four-wheel drive permanent. The automatic transmission available at the launch was a 4-speed derived from the W124 series Mercedes-Benz on the occasion of the 1998 model year was introduced to a new 5-speed automatic transmission (model 722.6) which introduced the system "Touch Shift", which allowed transition to the ratio higher or lower, respectively, by moving the shift lever to the right or the left.
