Mazda MX-5 Moata in America and around the world except in Japan where is known as the Eunos Roadster, a car is Japanese born in 1989 after nearly 10 years of studies, family car produced by Mazda.

The first prototypes apparently dates from the late 70s. This is a car Spyder (convertible two-seater) light and well balanced with a strong character from Spider English and Italian.

Mazda, this car has the best selling Guinness Book of spider of all time, and in fact his credit for having discovered a class of cars in the late eighties seemed definitively dead.

In 2005 came into production the third series.
The first round of the MX-5, identified by the initial reference NA, was unveiled at the Show in Chicago February 10, 1989 and was made available for delivery to customers around the world on the following dates: March 1989 in Japan, July 1989 (same model of 1990) in the United States, 1990 in Europe. An optional hardtop was made available at the same time.

The inspiration was a line of small spiders Englishmen as the Triumph Spitfire, or even the Lotus Elan, the approach was classical mechanics for its time with front engine and rear wheel drive.

The body of the NA is all steel with a lightweight aluminum hood. The overall dimensions are: 3,970 mm (156 inches) long, 1675 mm (65.9 inches) wide and 1235 mm (48.6 inches) in height, with a total weight of 950 kg. The drag coefficient was indicated as 0.38. The suspension is independent double-wishbone on all four wheels, with an anti-roll bar at the front and rear. Four disc brakes, vented in front, filled the rear. Alloy wheels with 185/60HR14 radial tires.

This first version of the MX-5 is sold with an engine from 1.6 L (98 cu in) double overhead cam four cylinder in line, mounted longitudinally, inspired aesthetic to the glorious twin cam Alfa Romeo, which produces 90 kW ( 120 hp) and 136 Nm (100 ft lbf) of torque. The engine employs an electronic fuel injection system that uses a type of flow meter and a sensor camshaft instead of a distributor. This engine, codename B61P, had been used previously for the series 323. The engine is assisted by a 5-speed gearbox, while the automatic transmission (available only in Japan and the United States) was included among the options but was not in great demand. These markets have also had an optional limited slip differential viscous type, although they were normally available only for cars with a manual transmission.

The NA could reach 60 mph (97 km / h) in 9.4 seconds and has a top speed of 190 km / h (120 mph). The first generation Miata (often referred to as M1) includes a special edition in 1991, produced in British Racing Green, the first with the use of leather interior. 1500 cars were produced LE (Limited Edition) in 1993. This model is characterized by a red leather interior, stereo enhancement, Nardi gear knob, leather steering wheel, cruise control, limited slip differential, power windows, power mirrors, power steering, air conditioning, BBS wheels, Bilstein shock absorbers, spoilers front and rear, ABS. All Cars were sold in black.

In 1994 the first generation MX-5 has been revised with the introduction of more powerful 1.8 L (110 cu in) BP-ZE, dual airbags and, in some markets, a limited slip differential. The chassis remained essentially unchanged, the most visible changes is the addition of a "track bar between the seat belts in the car, but have also been added reinforcements (subframes) to the front and rear . Addition, 1994 was the only year that Mazda has offered a new color light metallic blue (Laguna Blue Mica), making these cars to collect. The year 1994 also saw the introduction of the package "R" package sports theme with Bilstein shock absorbers.

The new engine 1.8 L (110 cu in) produces 98 kW (131 hp), was then increased by 1 kW (1.36 hp) for the model of 1996. The car weight increases reaching 990 kg (2200 lb). Performance were slightly improved, most cavalry is partly offset by the extra weight. In some markets like Europe, engine 1.6 L (98 cu in) continued to be available with lower cost, but has been weakened to 66 kW (89 hp). This engine has received less any additional reinforcements to the chassis of the new 1.8 L (110 cu in). For the Japanese and U.S. cars were made available as an optional Torsen LSD differential, which is much more durable than the previous viscous differential.

There were a number of models and special editions available, determined by the local marketing offices Mazda. In the United States, the base model at launch was characterized by very cheap solutions, like manual windows, steel wheels, and without A / C or power steering. A first set of options was offered by the adoption of power steering, leather steering wheel, alloy wheels and aluminum tape. A second package added power windows, cruise control and headrest speakers, while the top package included leather interiors. In the UK, to celebrate the victory of 24 hours of Le Mans, Mazda has created a special edition of the MX-5, with the colors of the winner (Mazda 787B) to come equipped with BBR (Brodie Britain Racing) turbo conversion.

The first generation MX-5 has been gradually replaced with the model of 1997 (with the exception of 400 cars in a limited edition, sold only in the United Kingdom in 1998 to mark the end of NA).
